The Brief

For over 20 years Borough Care have provided the safety and sanctuary of a warm and welcoming home currently operating 11 care homes in the Stockport area.

 Their core values of Compassion, Aspiration, Respect and Engaged (C.A.R.E.) underpin their commitment to providing the highest quality of care.

 Adaptive IT was tasked with installing the CLB Acoustic Monitoring solution and “Care Connect” Middleware software into their newly refurbished Bruce Lodge Care Home in Sotckport. 

The Challenge

THE CHALLENGE:

Provision needed to be made for all of the 66 resident bedrooms – Dementia sufferers needed to be able to call for assistance at night time without using traditional Nurse Call methods.

 Traditional Nurse Call systems can be very noisy and archaic.

 Audible communal call bells emit sounds loud enough to alert a member of staff to attend but also loud enough to disrupt residents. This is especially relevant for night time care when sleep can be disturbed unnecessarily and many times over night.

 This can effect the well-being of residents and staff can suffer from “alarm fatigue” with constant noise diluting the importance of individual calls.

 A solution needed to be found which could improve the effectiveness of staff responding to Nurse Calls and reduce noise whilst not requiring a full replacement of the existing equipment onsite.

Adaptive IT's Solution

CLB ACOUSTIC MONITORING:

A single CLB Acoustic Monitoring Module was installed into each resident bedroom – this monitors sounds in a room and when a concerning noise is heard an alert is sent to a central station.

 The solution helps raise levels of care and resident wellbeing – here are some operational examples,

 – Preventing Falls as residents are reached before bed exit

– Allowing better sleep cycles as interventions in rooms are only when necessary

– Abuse is prevented as aggression is detected

– Privacy and Dignity are protected with less in room interactions

 NURSE CALL MIDDLEWARE

The Care Connect, Nurse Call middleware solution was chosen to be deployed across the homes as necessary.

 The existing solution in place was not able to naturally send alerts out to a mobile device and by connecting our equipment this meant that the system could now have alerts translated and sent discretely over WiFi to an App.

This was a complex installation as it included part new build and part refurb works at premises that continued to be operational throughout. Complex problems usually need a simple solution and by working with trade and care home management this meant that the installation went very smoothly.
