Networks & Infrastructure

University of Northampton

St John's Hall of Residence
The Brief

As part of the ambitious new Waterside Campus development in the centre of town, this new build residential facility consists of 5 blocks of Student accommodation. Built on the site of the previous St John’s Car Park the network requirement was a copper Cat6 Solution throughout across 13 Cabinet locations with a blown fibre backbone. All LAN services would be run using this infrastructure and would be installed to a tight schedule to coincide with the first intake of students at the start of the academic year.

Adaptive IT's Solution

Working under instruction from Integral UK, the solution design incorporated approx. 2000 Cat6 outlets and approx. 500 cores of Brandrex blown fibre. The quality of the products used gives a great platform for any additional active equipment supplied by UoN and the topology gives excellent coverage. There is also great scope for expansion and for future proofing with additional outlets supplied systematically throughout the building core.

As a Northampton firm it was great to be heavily involved with such a high profile, local project. A high proportion of our staff are from the town so it gives a great sense of pride that we were instrumental in the production of a structure which will leave a great legacy. Working alongside other trades in a new build environment is always a challenge but we have delivered our solution on time and in line with the project schedule ready for the new students to benefit from.
