Access Control & CCTV
St Ivo School are an inclusive 11-18 academy, serving the community of St Ives and it’s surrounding area. Dating back 60 years, the site is situated in the middle of a residential area and the need arose to secure the grounds in order to improve student and staff safeguarding.
With no secure perimeter to the school grounds, the governing body had security concerns regarding the safety of the students and staff. Safeguarding is a primary concern for education sites, but the difficulty is finding a security solution that is flexible enough to manage the movement of pupils and the changing schedules of a busy campus.
The reliance on site staff physically unlocking and locking doors, and the lack of an efficient surveying solution left the site vulnerable to intrusion or students leaving as and when they wish.
The school received funding from the EFA to the value of £150,000 to combat these concerns.
Adaptive IT's Solution
Following a successful tendering process through PWoods Construction, Adaptive IT were tasked with designing a perimeter gate access control system with CCTV visual monitoring of key areas of the school premises. We proposed the Paxton Access Control solution, with the addition of Samsung’s CCTV offering.
Paxton are the current market leader in Access Control technologies and is already used in educational establishments at all levels across the UK, as well as high profile locations such as the Old Trafford home of Manchester United FC.
The core Paxton values of simplicity and quality resonate well in Education as the technology has to be reliable and easy to manage – two features that the system delivers impeccably.
Adaptive IT’s project management methodology is designed to implement an IT solution with the minimum disturbance and down time to the client, whilst ensuring that all parties gain the expected benefits within the agreed timescales and project costs.
We successfully completed the installation of 8 Paxton VR control points at strategic points along the perimeter with the ability to use voice, video and smart cards for direct access, with dual centralised control and command points at the main reception and within the facilities team office. Additionally, we installed 2 Paxton Net2 internal door controllers allowing entry and exit via smart cards, enabling the control of the primary security routes at the main reception and Leys Community areas.
We also implemented a campus-wide Samsung IP CCTV NVR 31 day codex system, complete with 5 Full HD cameras with the ability to pan, tilt and zoom, providing visibility of gated access and recreation areas.
Since the implementation of the new site-wide security solution the schools management team have enhanced the safeguarding policy and processes with the additional ability to provide high quality visual evidence of incidents and breach of school boundaries.Stephen Moore
