Danetre Hospital


The Brief

Danetre Hospital is a community hospital in Daventry. It opened in 2006 offering a wide range of services and delivering a high standard of care. At the same time it aims to provide an environment that is friendly to both patients and staff.

Adaptive IT were asked to consult on providing a solution to replace an existing TV system for patients to use throughout various ward areas.

The Problem

The existing system consisted mainly of aging television hardware that needed replacing but the main driver was that the main distribution unit that controlled the programme content that was seen by the patients kept crashing. This resulted in many hours of downtime which in turn led to frustrated patients and frustrated staff from having to deal with complaints and having to reboot the system from a position housed in a far part of the premises.

Adaptive IT's Solution

After initial consultation with key stakeholders including the Hospital Facilities Management Specialists and Friends of Danetre Charitable Trust a suitable replacement solution was found.

This consisted of wall mounted Phillips 32″ Healthcare LED HD TV’s teamed with a Digital Head end unit to distribute free to air satellite channels to all screen positions. This would increase the choice of entertainment channels available to patients from a previous number of 4 to over 80 and the medical grade remote controls supplied were fully compliant with infection controls.

This solution would give a cutting edge and stable platform that would be reliable and easy to use but also be of excellent quality and conform to the requirements needed for a healthcare environment.

Recommendation

A TV screen would be wall mounted and positioned for personal usage for private viewing by patients as required at a total of 19 locations.

The Digital Head end unit would be installed in the existing cabinet position and configured so all TV screens would be able to view whatever content they chose at each bed position.

Implementation

As the site was still a live clinical site, careful planning was used to ensure that disruption was kept to an absolute minimum.

This was successfully delivered by working closely with the FM Team to work around when areas became available and by keeping any noise to acceptable levels.

Ongoing Support

After initial orientation training for key staff, the system was put into action with an immediate warm reception from staff and patients alike.

The units offer a full warranty which was then managed by Adaptive IT going forward as part of out after sales service.

It was great to see the reaction from staff to the improvements made following the installation of our system. The TV’s are perfect for a clinical environment and offer a clear and crisp image in HD quality. It was a pleasure to be involved with the project and perhaps help somebody’s recovery along a little easier.
