The Brief

Established in 1985 with the opening of Milford House, over 30 years later Milford care now operate 6 care homes across Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire.

 In this time the Group has remained in the hands of the same two families and has never lost sight of its aim to deliver excellent care to the local communities it serves.

 Their unswerving commitment to quality care has seen Milford Care win a number of high profile regional awards, from Best Care Home-Central England and Best Care Group – Central England.

 The use of technology in a care environment is changing and more and more providers are looking to harness the potential of using digitised systems to make improvements to the way they the operate and deliver care.

 Adaptive IT were tasked with installing the CLB Acoustic Monitoring and Intelligent Nurse Call solution for their new build Buddleia House scheme in Hucknall. This included coverage for wireless pendants for residents. Also provided were a suitable Managed WiFi, Digital Signage & Digital Sign In Solution.

The Challenge

Provision needed to be made for all of the 38 resident bedrooms including en-suites, Communal Areas, Assisted Bathrooms & WC’s.  

 More and more devices and equipment are reliant on a wireless connection to the local network or the internet so the correct WiFi solution must be implemented.

 Health and Safety & Safeguarding are particularly hot topics and the ability to know who is in the building in the event of an emergency is very important. Hard copy signing in books offer a very limited and inaccurate option and are now subject to GDPR compliance.

 Up to date information for residents and staff is vital to the efficient running of a care home and traditional notice boards cannot keep pace with the requirements for content that needs to be displayed.

Adaptive IT's Solution

A single CLB Acoustic Monitoring Module was installed into each resident bedroom – this monitors sounds in a room and when a concerning noise is heard an alert is sent to a central station.

 The solution helps raise levels of care and resident wellbeing – here are some operational examples,

 – Preventing Falls as residents are reached before bed exit

– Allowing better sleep cycles as interventions in rooms are only when necessary

– Abuse is prevented as aggression is detected

– Privacy and Dignity are protected with less in room interactions

 Nurse Call alerts generated by the system we distributed discretely via App to mobile handsets carried by staff. This enables staff to efficiently answer calls on the move and residents are not disturbed by loud audible call bells especially at night.

 CLB wireless receivers were installed throughout the premises to enable connection to wireless pendants for residents to call for assistance if necessary.


Ruckus Wireless Access Points were deployed throughout the building to give full and reliable coverage to all necessary areas. Dedicated SSID’s were created to allow separate network access for residents, staff and visitors as required.

The Inventry digital sign in solution was installed into the main reception area. An impressive 20” touchscreen was mounted in the new reception area to cater for sign in events for –

 Health & Safety and safeguarding protocols are strengthened and in the event of an emergency a comprehensive and accurate manifest of who to account for can be generated immediately.

Their state-of-the-art technology is found across the globe powering digital signage in Care and any other communal display environments.
